HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: CORNING TOPS ELMIRA IN GOLD FINAL, HORSEHEADS TAKES SILVER CROWN AT CORNING TOURNEY (24 PHOTOS) (2024-09-08)

CORNING  — The Corning Hawks won their own tournament, capturing the gold bracket title at the Corning Tournament in three sets over Elmira, while Horseheads won the silver bracket.

Corning beat Lansing in the semifinals 25-20 and tnen they beat Elmira in the final 25-17, 19-25, 15-11.

Corning was 7-1 in pool play. The Hawks beat Waverly, 25-19, 25-18, they topped Tioga 25-21, 25-16 and Letchworth 25-16, 25-17. The Hawks split with North Penn-Liberty 25-17, 13-25.

Elmira was 5-1 in pool play, beating Edison 25-12, 25-13 and Horseheads 25-15, 25-18. They split with Lansing 21-25, 25-11.

Horseheads was 5-3 in pool play. The Blue Raiders fell to Elmira 15-25, 18-25 and they beat Edison 25-20, 25-15. The Blue Raiders split with Lansing 20-25, 27-25 and beat Spencer Van-Etten 25-19, 25-20.

Edison was 0-8 on the day. They fell to Elmira 25-12, 25-13, Horseheads 25-20, 25-15, Lansing 25-23, 25-13 and SVE 26-24, 26-24.

Elmira topped Tioga in the gold bracket semi to make the final against Corning.

Horseheads beat Letchworth 25-15 in the deliver semis and they won 14-15, 25-21, 16-14 over North Penn-Liberty in the final.

Adrianna Calbi had 25 kills, 12 digs, three aces and two blocks for Horseheads and Kylee Rybak had eight kills, three aces and two blocks.

Anna Ruhmel had nine kills and three aces and Lily Patalunas had eight kills and four aces, while Meleah Kohlberger had 29 assists, nine digs, four aces and a block.

Kaleyn McCarthy had 27 assists, 11 digs and three aces and Gracie Sherman had four kills, 16 digs and two aces, while Lexi Malay had two kills, four aces and 28 digs.

Alexxa Fairchild-Johnson had three kills, 10 digs and two aces and Kailey McCormick had four aces, two digs and two kills.

Emelia Clark had four kills, Kendra Aida had three kills and three digs Emelia Wright had seven digs and three aces and Madden Foster had five digs.
