HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' SOCCER: PATTERSON SCORES AS ND PLAYERS TIGHT ONE-GOAL GAME WITH CLASS A SECTIONAL CHAMPS (18 PHOTOS) (2024-09-07)

Southern Tier Sports Report
SOUTHPORT — The Notre Dame gave last year’s Class A sectional champions eerything they could handle in a 2-1 Owego win on Saturday afternoon.

Gabe Patterson tied the game up early in the second half with his second goal in two games for Notre Dame.

Matt Higgins had put Owego up 1-0 early, and then he scored the game-winning goal for the River Hawks. Sawyer Prentiss had an assist for Owego.

“I am very proud of our boys for focusing on the game and the things in their control and fighting until the final whistle against a team three classes higher,” Notre Dame coach Josh Miller said. “I want to thank the home support today, the student section, the families watching the stream from abroad. I also want to thank my assistant coaches, Gavin Harrington and Ryan Mattoon, who are a wonderful asset to our program.”

For Owego it was good to play a tough team on the road and get the win.

“We wanted to add a challenging away game to our schedule and we’re very happy with the performance of the team,” Owego coach Alessia De Michele said. “We could have scored more from the chances we created, which is something we’re going to have to improve upon continuing on from Thursday night’s game.

“I’m very pleased with the possession and comfort on the ball players are showing, being brave and composed to create under pressure. I think we defended very well as a team today to barely conceding a chance. We were missing Vasil (Brich) today so other attackers knew they had to step up which is a great confidence boost as a team as well.”
