HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL: HORSEHEADS EXCITED AS NEW SEASON BEGINS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-09-06)
Southern Tier Sports Report HORSEHEADS — The Horseheads Blue Raiders kicked off their season last night as they get a new year underway.
“It feels great,” Horseheads coach Megyan Merrill said. “The energy they have is just absolutely amazing. These girls are a great group and I’m just excited to see what they bring this season.
“We have eight returning seniors this year. A couple juniors to add to our team and a sophomore.”
The team got back to work just a week ago as practices started up for the fall.
“I think they were not so excited for the preseason fun they had to endure, but they bring a great attitude and after we got all done with all the physical stuff everyone was cheering on everyone and we got to the core and I really saw some amazing things from everybody.”
It was a shorter preseason as practices started last Monday and by Wednesday of this week they were beginning games.
“It’s definitely tough, unfortuantely with pushing it back we have to have at least six practices,” Merrill said. “Fortunately, we were able to get a Saturday practice in, which worked great for us and the girls were completely excited about it, which was amazing. But, it’s definitely much harder now to not have as much of a preseason to get things sorted out.” ——— PHOTOS OF PRACTICE BY BRIAN FEES
