Southern Tier Sports Report CORNING — Lilia Mack had a hat trick and the Corning defense didn’t allow any shots as the Hawks beat Johnson City 6-0 to start the season.
Mack added an assist in the game and Kate Winderyl had two goals, while Maggie Calkins added a goal.
Whitney Smith and Lia Mazzali each had assists for Corning.
“The game was well played,” Corning coach Julie Pierce said. “Johnson City’s goalie kept them in the game in the first half, allowing two first-half goals despite 10 shots on frame.
“We played much better in the second half and made better decisions all over the field. Corning had 10 shots on goal in the second half and five corners.”
Johnson City had no shots on goal.
“Rukma Chaudhury played solid in goal, making several great passes from the back,” Pierce said of the Hawks goalie. “Overall, I am proud of how well we possessed the ball tonight.”
Johnson City’s goalie had 15 saves in goal.
