HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' SOCCER: CORNING BOYS ROLL TO SEASON-OPENING WIN (2024-09-05)
Southern Tier Sports ReportJOHNSON CITY — The Corning boys’ soccer team had three players score multiple goals as they opened the season with a 9-0 win over Johnson City on Thursday.
Taylor Freelove had three goals and three assists and James Goodman had two goals and an assist in the game.
Charlie Warner finished with two goals for the Hawks.
Will Howles and Brandon Ogunwumi each had goals for Corning and Casey Robbins and Landyn Proudfoot had assists.
Corning outshot Johnson City 23-0 and led in corners 8-0.
Logan Durand and Isaac Anderson were in goal for Corning. Robert McMurray had 13 saves for Corning.
“Our backline was able to squander transition chances throughout the match,” Corning coach Chad Freelove said. “We had to regain our composure at times when trying to get out in the attack. We will continue to grow together throughout the season.”
