Southern Tier Sports Report
ELMIRA — ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women's soccer team opened the newly turfed Campus Field on Wednesday afternoon, finishing with a 1-1 draw against SUNY Canton. The Soaring Eagles, who would begin the scoring in the 52nd minute off the foot of Piper Andrews '26, would eventually surrender a goal in the 73rd minute as the contest finished in a tie. The Elmira goal came on an assist from Faith Ingber '26.

Elmira grad Tierny Krawczyk and Horseheads grad Sophie Tarntino each started for Elmira College.

JUST THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elmira 1, SUNY Canton 1
LOCATION: Elmira, NY. | Campus Field

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (0-1-1, 0-0-0 E8), SUNY Canton (1-1-1, 0-0-0 SUNYAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
    •    The first half would be quiet from a scoring perspective from both teams, despite Elmira's 20-3 advantage in shots, as well as 12-1 on net. Elmira would increase that total in the second half, controlling possession for nearly the entirety of the contest before Andrews rebounded one of Ingber's seven shots in the contest to finish the play. Ingber's shot would deflect off the net before Andrew's buried the go-ahead goal.
    •    After some back-and-forth, the Roos would see a Soaring Eagle turnover lead to a score of their own, one of just their three shots on the day (two in the same play). After a shot from Chamonix Jackson was saved by Elmira goalkeeper Nevaeh Winston '25, the rebound would eventually fall to the feet of Sydney Hoefer, who knotted the contest at 1-1 at the 73:05 mark.
    •    Following the goal, Elmira would control the shot battle 11-0, but were unable to find the back of the net.
    •    Overall, EC would outshoot Canton 42-5, including a 26-3 advantage on net, while also leading the corner kicks battle 3-1. Winston would finish with two saves in net, while Canton's Skylar Williams finished with 24.
    •    Emily Seiler '28 (5), Rachel Bortnick '25 (4), Ingber (4) Bella Thomas '28 (3), and Andrews (3) would lead EC in shots on goal during the contest.
