Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — For the Edison eight-man football team it was time to get back to work Monday as they prepare for a new season.
“It’s always exciting the first day of practice,” Edison coach Kyle Erickson said. “Excited to be out here. Excited for the kids who turned out to be out here with me this football season. Hopefully we can have some fun.”
For the Spartans they have a good group of players and are hoping for success this season.
“Obviously we come in every season we want to win games,” Erickson said. “We want to win games, we want to be competitive. It will be interesting to see how we do this year. I think we have got from our small numbers a decent pool of student athletes that I’m interested to see what we can put together this season.”
Being back for another season is always special.
“Who doesn’t like fall,” Erickson said. “I feel like fall, it’s one of my favorite seasons. I look forward to the fall because this is when my vacation is and I’m off. So fall, football, vacation, it’s fun.
“I’m looking forward to what we can do with our program. Obviously, as we are here talking we just saw the modified team come out here and the numbers there are obviously much larger than we have for varsity. So, hopefully we have positive things coming in the pipeline.”
