HORSEHEADS — For a group of 10u players there couldn’t be a tougher situation to deal with mentally.

Leading 4-2, bases loaded, no outs and now here comes a rain delay of a half hour, giving you plenty of time to think about the situaiton.

After the delay The Elmira/LPC 10u All-Stars rallied to tie the game, but Corning-Painted Post Black got out of a jam with runners on second and third, and they then answered with two runs in the sixth to win 6-4 to capture the District 6 Championship.

“That was definitely rough,” Corning Black coach Jason Tiffany said. “Bases loaded, we were kind of down on ourselves. We just had a talk we are going to push through and we will do what we have to do.”

During the rain delay it was important for the team to stay focused on the situation.

“They wanted to go play in the rain, but we wanted to keep their mind on the game, and that’s what we did,” Tiffany said.

With runners on second and third and a tie game with one out, Corning black got an out at the plate and then Paul Castilone recorded a strikeout to leave the inning with the game tied at four.

One inning later Rowan Adriance led off with a walk and he stole second. Tommy Guyette was hit by a pitch to put two runners on and a wild pitch put runners on second and third.

Elmira/LPC pitcher Jairden Gorham got a strikeout for the second out, but Castilone hit a two-run single with two outs to score the winning runs.

“We were kind of down,” Tiffany said of when Elmira came back. “But we told them, who has the biggest hearts and it was us. So we just swung the bats, as we always do, and we just depended that.”

For Corning’s coaches it was all about what the players were able to do.

“It all comes down the players,” Tiffany said. “We just put it all on their backs and all we do as coaches is let them play.”

Now it’s onto Cicero for the sectional tournament.

“They are pumped,” Tiffany said. “We have a good team, we are going to go places.”

Hayden Hatch struck out four in three no-hit innings, allowing one run.

Jordan Todd struck out three in an inning and Castilone went two innings, allowing two hits and a run, with two strikeouts.

Hatch and Todd had doubles, while Castilone had a hit and two RBI.

Todd had an RBI and Hatch scored a run. Adriance scored two runs and Guyette had two RBI and three runs scored.

Jay Melendez had a double for Elmira/LPC with two RBI and Gorsham had a hit.

Padgett, Jansen Graham scored a run and Aidan Constable scored a run.

Padgett struck out nine and allowed two hits and four unearned runs in four innings. Jairden Gorsham had three strikeouts and allowed one hit in two innings.
