HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' GOLF: CORNING'S ABEL FINISHES TIED FOR 25TH TO LEAD LOCALS AT STATE GOLF (2024-06-03)

ALBANY — Corning’s Delaney Abel tied for 25th place to lead the locals at the NYSPHSAA Girls’ Golf Championship at the Edison Club on Monday.

The Hawks eighth-grader shot a round of 81 to follow up an 83 on Sunday. Her 20-over 164 for the day tied her for 25th place.

Abel had a pair of birdies on Monday and she had seven pars on the day, including five pars on the back nine.

Abel shot a 43 on the front nine and a 38 on the back on Monday.

Notre Dame freshman Evelyn Wheeler shot a 90 on Monday and finished tied for 53 with a two-day total of 178. She had an 88 on Sunday and was 34-over for the tournament.

Wheeler had a birdie on the 11th hole on Monday and she had five pars on the day.

Overall over the two days she had 10 pars and a birdie.

Wheeler shot 46 on the front and 44 on the back on Monday.

Horseheads’ Mady Weigand tied for 67. Weigand shot a 90 on Monday, after a 95 on Sunday, improving by five shots from the first day. Her two-day total of 185 was 41-over.

Weigand had four pars on the day on Monday, three on the back nine. She shot 46 on the front and 44 on the back.

Corning’s Amanda Hall withdrew on Monday after a round of 96 on Sunday.

Kennedy Swedick of The Albany Academies shot a six-under 66 to finish at 136 over the two days. Her -8 overall score won her the tournament for the third straight year, tying the most consecutive championship wins in state history.
