HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' GOLF: CORNING'S ABEL LEADS LOCALS AFTER DAY ONE OF STATES (9 PHOTOS) (2024-06-02)

ALBANY — Corning’s Delaney Abel is tied for 32nd after the first day of the NYSPHSAA Girls’ Golf Championships at the Edison Club to lead locals in the tournament on Sunday.

Abel shot a 44 on the front nine, but had a 39 on the back with an eagle on the 17th hole. She had an 83 on the day and is three shots back of the top 20.

Abel had eight pars on the day, including five on the front nine.

Notre Dame’s Evelyn Wheeler shot a round of 88 and is tied for 50th. She had five pars on the day. She shot a 45 on the front and a 43 on the back nine.

Wheeler is plus-16 for the day.

Horseheads’ Mady Weigand shot a 95 and is tied for 68th. She is 23 over and the junior had a birdie on the 13th hole on her day.

Weigand shot 47 on the front and 48 on the back nine.

Corning’s Amanda Hall shot a 96 and is tied for 72nd place. She also had a birdie on the 13th hole and she had four pars on the day.

Hall shot 48 on both the front and back nine.
