HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: EDISON RALLIES MULTIPLE TIMES AS THEY TOP WINDSOR IN 8 INNINGS TO REACH SECTIONAL FINAL (24 PHOTOS) (2024-05-23)

Southern Tier Sports Report
ELMIRA HEIGHTS — Edison rallied from 6-2 down after the first three innings, and then they rallied again from 8-6 down in the bottom of the eighth to top Windsor 9-8 to advance to the Section IV, Class B title game.

Maycie Bennett hit an RBI double to cut the deficit to 8-7 and then Emma Maggs reached on a dropped third strike, with two Edison players scoring on the play.

“Being up to bat in a situation like that Iknew I just had to put the ball in play to try and get a couple runs across,” Bennett said. “Windsor is a really tough team and played a great game today. Congratulations to them on a great season.”

For Edison it’s special to head back to the sectional final, after reaching the state Final Four a year ago. This year it’s in a new class as they are in Class B.

“It feels really amazing to be headed back to the championship,” Bennett said. “We have such an amazing group of girls. It really does feel like a family.

“We knew that this could’ve been our last game, so we just played as hard as will could until the last run. Games like this are so fun, but can be nerve-wracking, so it’s important to just play like we know how to play and trust in ourselves.”

Windsor scored two in the top of the first, but Edison answered with a two-run single by Mariana Jones-Frosolone in the bottom half of the inning.

Windsor then got two more in the second and third to lead 6-2.

Edison got an RBI single from Maddison Pack in the bottom of the fourth to get within 6-3 and then Bella Moffe reached on an error in the fifth, scoring a run. Emily Aiello hit an RBI triple and Gabby Milazzo followed with an RBI single to tie the game.

Milazzo worked all eight innings on the mound, striking out three.

Milazzo had two hits and an RBI and Pack had two hits and an RBI.

“It’s so exciting to be heading back to the final,” Milazzo said. “I’m super proud of the way we came back and never gave up throughout the whole game.

“These two games (the quarterfinal was a one run win over Chenango Forks) have been so much fun and I’m so excited to keep on moving forward with my teammates.”

Aiello had a triple and scored a run and Bennett had a double, an RBI and a run scored.

“It was a great team win and I am so proud we were able to work together and come through at the end,” Aiello said. “It’s great to be headed back to the final and I hope we can repeat last year.

“These two close games have definitely been stressful, but that’s what softball is all about. I think it’s good that we are able to face more competitive teams this year and we’ll continue working hard to reach our goals.”

Jones-Frosolone had a hit, two RBI and a run scored and Kailey Ripley had a hit and scored a run.

Emma Maggs, Moffe and Charlee Stroman scored runs in the game.
