HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: EDISON USES 5 RUN INNING TO WIN FIRST IAC TITLE SINCE 2019 (24 PHOTOS) (2024-05-09)

AURORA — The Edison softball team scored five runs in the third inning as they won their first IAC title since 2019.

Edison in 2018 and 19 won back-to-back IAC titles, winning the state title during that 2019 season as well.

Lansing scored in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, but Edison came right back as Brianna Korsky reached on an error, and moved to third on the error, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Emily Aiello.

The game was 1-1 through two innings, but in the bottom of the third the Spartans exploded for the five runs.

Carissa Cowan walked to start the inning and Charlee Stroman sacrificed to move her to second. Cowan moved to third on an error and after an out was recorded the Spartans went on a two-out rally.

Aiello hit an RBI double and Emma Maggs followed with an RBI single. Kailey Ripley reached on a dropped third strike, and Maggs scored on the play. Maycie Bennett then hit an RBI double and Gabby Milazzo hit an RBI single.

Lansing got a run back in the fourth inning to get within 6-2.

The game was 6-2 in the bottom of the fifth when Stroman led off with a single and Korsky followed with a single. Stroman scored on a passed ball, with Korsky moving to third on the play. With two outs Ripley hit an RBI double.

Lansing got a run in the top of the sixth and in the bottom half of the inning Milazzo led off with a single and after an out was recorded Maddison Pack hit an RBI double.

Milazzo was 3-for-3 in the game and Korsky, Aiello, Maggs, Ripley, Bennett, Pack and Stroman all had hits. Ripley. Bennett, Pack and Aiello all had doubles in the game,

Korsky scored two runs and Aiello, Maggs, Ripley, Bennett, Cowan and Stroman scored runs, while Aiello had two RBI and Maggs, Ripley, Bennett and Pack added RBI.

Milazzo threw a three-hitter, striking out 12 against just one walk. She allowed three unearned runs.
