HIGH SCHOOL TRACK AND FIELD: HORSEHEADS GIRLS WIN BLUE SHOES INVITE TITLE, LOCALS HAVE BIG DAY (24 PHOTOS) (May 4, 2024)Southern Tier Sports ReportHORSEHEADS — The Horseheads girls brought home the team title at their annual Blue Shoes Invitational on Saturday.
Horseheads won on the girls side with a score of 134, toping Ithaca (128). Elmira was fifth at 38 points, Notre Dame had 13 points and Corning had nine.
For the boys Horseheads was second at 132 with Ithaca winning at 142.5. Elmira was sixth at 32 points followed by Corning at 22.
In the girls 200 Makayla Robicheaux of Elmira won in 27.54 and Horseheads’ Elly Bachert was third at 28.65 followed by teammate Lauren Tournour in 28.99. Krislynn Dubuque of Horseheads was sixth in 30.07 and Elmira’s Leona Baker was 10th in 33.03.
In the boys’ 200 Ryan Anderson of Horseheads won in 23.24. DJ Coprew of Elmira was fourth in 23.94 followed by teammate Ta’hjay Molina-Bacome in 24.42. Carlo Cipolla of Horseheads was seventh in 24.69 and Matt Mucci of Horseheads was 10th in 24.94.
In the girls’ 800 Elmira’s Emma Barends was fourth in 2:58.03 followed by teammate Marriah Faucett (3:00.09) and Horseheads’ Tabitha Oakes (3:00.57), Alanna Stillman (3:13.40) and Morgan Evans (3:15.75).
In the boys’ 800 Kiran Gulati of Horseheads won in 2:01.89 followed by Samir Gulati in 2:04.56. Horseheads’ Drake Ernst was eighth in 2:20.86.
Madelyn Wise of Elmira won the 3000 in 11:58.58 followed by Horseheads’ Cassidy Johnson (15:52.14).
In the boys’ 3200 Horseheads’ Hunter Lewis was fourth in 10:42.96 and teammate Gavin Hornsby was seventh in 10:55.39. Horseheads’ Luke Dordoni was ninth in 11:12.07.
In the girls’ 1600 relay Horseheads was second in 4:20.39 and Elmira was fourth in the boys’ 1600 relay in 3:52.97 followed by Horseheads in 3:57.03.
Bachert won the long jump at 14-feet, 10 1/4-inches followed by teammate Andrea Benjamin at 14-feet, 4-inches. Caitlin Keenan of Notre Dame was seventh at 13-feet, 2 3/4-inches followed by Horseheads’ Olivia Hornsby at 12-feet, 2 1/2-inches and Elmira’s Aubrey Wheeler (12-feet, 1/4-inch) and Zoey Brooks (10-feet, 11 1/2-inches).
In the boys’ long jump Devin Godwin of Horseheads was third at 17-feet, 11 1/2-inches followed by teammate Noah Angstrom at 17-feet, 1/2-inches. Aeden Marreo of Notre Dame was eighth at 15-feet, 3 1/2-inches.
Eleanor Green of Notre Dame won the triple jump at 30-feet, 11 1/4-inches and Horseheads’ Alexus Borek was third at 30-feet, 1-inch. Horseheads’ Erica Bancroft was fifth at 28-feet, 6 3/4-inches.
In the boys’ triple jump Elmira’s Maize Miller was fifth at 32-feet, 3 1/2-inches and Horseheads’ Sebastian Garcia was eighth at 30-feet, 1-inch.
In the girls’ shot put Isabella Rivera of Horseheads took second at 31-feet, 11 1/4-inches followed by Corning’s Samantha Harvey at 30-feet, 6 1/2-inches. Notre Dame’s Maggie Moore was sixth at 25-feet, 3 3/4-inches and Verneece Sumner of Elmira was eighth at 24-feet, 7 1/2-inches, while Lexi Thibault of Corning was 10th at 24-feet, 1/4-inches.
Jacob Blencowe of Corning was second in the shot put at 38-feet, 10 1/2-inches while teammate Logan Mullaney was fourth at 35-feet, 4 3/4-inches followed by teammate Wyatt Smith at 35-feet, 3/4-inches and Elmira’s Julius Mulligan at 31-feet, 10-inches. Angstrom was eighth at 29-feet, 5 3/4-inches followed by Elmira’s Jace Thomas Barr at 28-feet, 6-inches.
Horseheads’ Madilyn Jerzak was fourth in the discus at 80-feet, 7-inches followed by Corning’s Harvey (79-feet, 2-inches) and Thibault (70-feet, 5-inches). Noelle Paek of Corning was eighth at 67-feet, 5-inches followed by Moore (65-feet, 4-inches) and Notre Dame’s Shannon Craig (63-feet, 3-inches).
Mullaney was second int eh boys discus at 120-feet, 1-inch followed by Angstrom at 116-feet, 3-inches. Horseheads’ Calvin Cradle was sixth at 108-feet, 8-inches followed by Corning’s Gabriel Ferratella (100-feet) and Mitchell Elsey (96-feet, 9-inches).
Lindsey Wood of Horseheads was third in the high jump at 4-feet, 4-inches and in the boys’ event Nasir Bradford of Elmira won at 5-feet, 10-inches with Connor Trimber of Horseheads third at 5-feet, 4-inches.
IN the girls pentathlon Notre Dame’s Makenna Keough won at 2,294 points and for the boys Antonio Campanella of Notre Dame was second at 1,856.
Bancroft won the 100 hurdles in 17.80 and Zalayna Brown of Elmira was fourth in 21.51. For the boys Santiago Moreira was fourth in the 110 hurdles in 21.34 followed by teammate Nolan Cruise (21.94) and Donato Dos Reis of Elmira (22.29).
Horseheads was second in the girls’ 3200 relay in 11:28.94 and they won the boys’ 400 relay in 44.59 followed by Elmira in 45.84. The girls took second in the 400 relay in 53.05 and in the boys’ 3200 relay the Blue Raiders were second at 8:56.
Robicheaux was second in the 100 in 13.58 and Mylynn Flint of Horseheas was fourth in 13.87. Green was sixth in 14.13 followed by Benjamin (14.29) and Horseheads’ Ally Perry (14.48).
Horseheads’ Chase Luangsuwan won the 100 meters for the boys in 11.63.
Horseheads’ Stella Harrison was fourth in the 2000 steeplechase in 9:32.49 followed by teammate Sophia Christmas (9:43.64), Notre Dame’s Caroline Horton (9:49.06) and Horseheads’ Grace Wilson (10:10.74).
Nicholas Kowal of Horseheads was third in the boys’ 3000 steeplechase in 10:34.26 and teammate Logan Hornsby was fifth in 11:40.05 followed by teammate Dominick Marino (12:04.24), Notre Dame’s Gavin Meier (12:33) and Elmira’s Duane Nichols (13:59.11).
Sophia Jones of Horseheas was fourth in the 1500 in 5:38.85 and teammate Grace Wilson was ninth in 6:27.89.
Borek won the 400 in 1:01.12 and Elmira’s Jazae Watkins-White was seventh in 1:10.68 followed by Horseheads’ Olivia Hornsby (1:11.35) and teammate Elise Gulati in 1:15.64.
Max Williams of Horseheads was third in the 1600 in 4:50.45 and teammate Allen Wetmore was sixth in 4:55.75.
Bradock Salisbury of Horseheads won the 400 in 51.16 and John Calabrese of Elmira was ninth in 57.76.
Horseheads’ Sophie Shutter was second in the 400 hurdles in 1:15.34 followed by Harrison in 1:19.37.
Horseheads’ Cruise was fourth in the 400 hurdles in 1:05.44.
For the pentathlon Keough won the 100 hurdles portion in 16.93. She was second in the high jump at 1.37m and won the shot put at 6.43m. She won the long jump at 4.92m and was second in the 800 meters in 2:39.31.
For the boys Campanella was second in the 110 hurdles in 22.89 and was first in the high jump at 1.64m. He was second in the shot put at 6.73m and second in the long jump at 4.90m. He was first in the 1500 in 5:01.79.
