HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: HORSEHEADS USES 13-RUN INNING TO TOP CORNING (24 PHOTOS) (2024-05-01)

CORNING — Horseheads used a 13-run fifth inning as they topped Corning 24-15 on Wednesday afternoon.

The teams traded leads through the first two innings.

Horseheads led 3-0 after the top of the first, but Corning scored four in the bottom half of the inning to lead 4-3.

The Blue Raiders got four of their own in the second to go up 7-4, but the Hawks again answered with four go lead 8-7.

Corning added four runs in the third and led 12-7, before Horseheads got four back in the top of the fourth to get within 12-11.

It was that one-run game, when Horseheads scored 13 in the fifth inning.

Horseheads hit three home runs and had 22 hits in the win.

Caitlin Yearick was 3-for-5 with two home runs, four RBI and four runs scored and Sophia Bonnell had four hits, with a double, an RBI and four runs scored.

Megan Wolf had three hits, with a home run, four RBI and three runs scored and Maddie Ribble had four hits, with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored.

Raegan Burge, Chloe Perritt and Olivia French all had two hits in the game.

Burge had three RBI and a run scored and Perritt had an RBI and four runs scored. French had a double, three RBI and three runs scored.

Kailey McCormick had a double, two RBI and three runs scored and Emelia Clark had a hit with three RBI.

Wolf struck out 11 in five innings, allowing four hits and Perritt worked two innings, striking out one.

Peyton Sullivan had two home runs for Corning. She had three RBI and three runs scored in the game.

Kendall Curreri and Matti Johnston each had two hits for the Hawks. Curreri had an RBI in the game and Johnston had a double, three RBI and three runs scored.

Lauren DeRosa, Sophie Schoonover and Kayleigh Sparks all had hits for the Hawks. Sparks had a double and scored a run and DeRosa and Schoonover each had an RBI and a run scored.

Sophia Polzella scored three runs in the game and Emelia Smith scored two runs, while Sydney Layton scored a run.

Sullivan worked an inning for Corning, striking out one and Johnston worked 5 2/3 innings, striking out four. Smith got one out.
