HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' BASKETBALL: TWO LOCALS EARN ALL-STATE HONORS IN AAA, FOUR BETWEEN AA AND AAA EARN HM NODS (2024-04-25)

Two area boys’ basketball players earned all-state honors in Class AA and four locals earned honorable mention honors between Class AA and AAA.

Elmira’s Chris Woodard was an 11th team pick in Class AAA and Corning eighth grader Nolyn Proudfoot earned 13th team honors.

Woodard averaged 16.9 points and 9.9 rebounds a game, shooting 53% from the field. He was this year’s BCANY Player of the Year, and he was the Southern Tier Sports Report Player of the Year.

Proudfoot averaged 19.3 points a game, making 47 threes. He had 96 rebounds, 34 assists and 28 steals this year. He was a BCANY all-star and he was this year’s all-Southern Tier Sports Report Offensive Player of the Year.

Elmira’s James Harris and Corning’s Gavyn Hogue earned honorable mention all-state honors in AAA and Maddox Hughey and Jack Fesetch of Horseheads earned Class AA honorable mention honors.

Hughe was the STSR Newcomer of the year, averaging. A double-double at 15 points and 12 boards a game. He was also the Sports Reports All-Region Newcomer of the Year.

Fesetch averaged 12 points a game, made 65 threes, including nine against Moravia. He shot 40% from the three-point arc, and 89% from the free throw line.

Hogue scored 10.9 points a game and hit 23 threes, along with adding 63 rebounds, 85 assists and 30 steals.

Harris averaged 9.8 points a game, hitting 32 threes. He had 60 assists, 32 steals and six rebounds for a sectional championship team.
