HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: 7TH INNING THE DIFFERENCE AS ELMIRA FALLS TO UNBEATEN VESTAL (2024-04-19)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — The Elmira Express were tied with unbeaten Vestal through six innings, but a seven-run seventh was the difference as the Golden Bears won 10-3.
After Vestal scored a first-inning run, Elmira got two int he second and a run in the third to go up 3-1.
Vestal got a run in the fourth and a run in the sixth to tie things, before they won it in the seventh.
Upon commit Caitlyn Petteys started and finished the scoring on the day with a pair of home runs. She had a solo shot in the first inning and hit a grand slam in the seventh to cap the scoring.
Addison Taft and Ava Sherman had two hits each for Elmira. Taft scored a run and Sherman had an RBI and a run scored.
Addisyn Chorney had a triple, an RBI and a run scored and Lily Cornacchio and Ryleigh Ogden each finished with hits in the game.
Ava Cornacchio worked six innings, striking out two and Madison Smith worked a perfect inning in the game.
Vestal, who is 10-0 on the year now, got a 3-for-5 day from Petteys, with a pair of home runs, five RBI and three runs scored. Lauren Policare had two hits, an RBI and a pair of runs scored.
