HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL: ELMIRA SCORES FOUR IN NINTH TO TOP HORNELL (2024-04-16)

HORNELL — The Elmira softball team scored four runs in the ninth inning to pick up a 6-2 non-league win over Hornell.

Elmira led 1-0 in the sixth when Addison Taft hit a home run.

However, Hornell scored two in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game.

In the ninth inning Addisyn Chorney singled and stole second and Maddy Cavalier singled, but Chorney was out at home plate.

Ava Cornacchio then singled and moved to second on the throw. Lily Cornacchio then singled home Cavalier and Ava Cornacchio.

Ava Sherman then reached on an error, scoring Lily Cornacchio and Taft singled to move Sherman to second. Kae Thomas hit a groundout, scoring a run.

Taft had two hits with the home run and Sherman had two hits, with a run scored.

Lily Cornacchio and Chorney each had two hits. Cornacchio had two RBI and a run scored and Chorney had an RBI.

Thomas, Ryleigh Ogden, Cavalier and Ava Cornacchio all had hits. Cornacchio, Ogden and Cavalier scored runs and Thomas had an RBI.

Ava Cornacchio pitched all nine innings, allowing one earned run on seven hits, striking out six.
