AAU BASKETBALL: ELIRA ELITE VARSITY WINS ERIE HARDWOOD TOURNEY (2024-04-08)

The Elmira Elite Varsity won the 2024 Erie Hardwood Tournament, becoming unbeaten champions with a 4-0 record and a 15-point win in the championship.

Corning’s Kyler Stevenson had 19 points and four steals in the title game.

Lansing’s Jordan Sidle had 17 points and 10 assists in the title game and Sidney’s Connor Van Der Sommen had 17 points in the semifinal round.

Makya Morrison of Oneonta had 10 points, 10 boards, five blocks and four steals in the title game.

Notre Dame’s Menelik Jenkins had a last-minute three to win the game in overtime in the semifinal to send the team to the final.

The team had their first tourney earlier this spring in Rochester, the Spring Fever Showdown. Both the JV and varsity team made the championship, with the JV going 2-1 and the varsity 3-1.

JV standouts were Trey Webb, who averaged 19 points, including five threes per game. Khayden Andrews averaged 14 points and three steals and Rocco Sayres averaged 11 points and five assists.

Cole Meeker averaged a double-double with 11 points and 10 boards and Bryce Thomas averaged 10 points, six rebounds and two steals, while Naji Macklin averaged eight points and five boards.

For the varsity Sidle averaged 18 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals. He had two games with 20 plus points and eight assists.

Stevenson averaged 14 points, six boards, 3.5 assists and three steals. He had 21 points, five boards and three assists and was clutch late in the championship game.

Morrison averaged 5.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 4.5 blocks a game and he had 13 blocks and four steals in game one.

Corning’s Mekai Daniels averaged 6.5 assists and 2.5 steals a game and Jenkins led the team averaging 4.5 steals a game.
