SOUTHPORT — Alex Daugherty was dominant on the mound and Boyd had two hits as the Notre Dame baseball team beat Towanda 6-1 in a non-league matchup Saturday.

Daugherty worked 6 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and an unearned run, striking out 11 for the Crusaders. Luke Richards got the final out as the Crusaders open the year 2-0.

Daugherty has 24 strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings this year.

Jhamez Boyd had two hits and scored two runs, with an RBI, and Daugherty, Jahmeire Keyser and Brendan O’Brien had hits in the game. O’Brien, Daugherty, Sebastian Capriotti and Logan Meisner each scored runs for the Crusaders.

Keyser, Richards and Cain all had RBI for Notre Dame.

John Tavani worked 4 2/3 innings for Towanda, striking out three and Giovanni Assante Di Cupillo worked 1 1/3 innings.

Assante Di Cupillo, Teagan Irish and Jack Wheaton had hits in the game.
