HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' LACROSSE: ELMIRA CONTINUES YEAR OF FIRSTS, GETS FIRST WIN OVER ITHACA (2024-04-05)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA — It’s been a season of firsts for the Elmira boys’ lacrosse team, and they got another big first on Friday night.
In the season opener they beat Corning for the first time in program history, on Friday it was Ithaca that they beat for the first time, winning 8-3.
“This is such a special group,” Elmira coach Jason Stukey said. “They have been playing together since kindergarten. They are very hungry and it shows in their play. I couldn’t be more proud of the team effort. We are just getting started. Can’t wait for the next one.”
Ryan Stukey had four goals for Elmira in the game and Landon Cook finished with two goals for the Express.
This group that started when they were in kindergarten beat a lot of these programs when they were younger, and they are happy to now be doing it at the varsity level.
“It feels great,” Cook said. “We used to kill them in SRA and it’s good to be able to do it again with all the kids that started the program for Elmira. It’s just the greatest feeling.”
Kaiden Green and Creed Hackett each finished with a goal and Evan Garvin had two assists.
“It’s a great feeling,” Garvin said. “It was a great team win. Getting guys involved and obviously having Sam in the goal is huge for us.”
D1 signee Sam Brenen-Buseck had another big game in net with 14 saves.
While Brenen-Buseck, who is going to play at LeMoyne next year, has been stellar all year, he knows it takes everyone on the team to make this happen.
“It was absolutely a team win, no doubt,” Brenen-Buseck said. “The energy we’ve come out with this season is unmatched and I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else. Huge group effort and a huge win overall.”
