HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL: ELMIRA GETS TO WORK AS THEY PREPARE FOR SEASON (24 PHOTOS) (2024-03-21)
Southern Tier Sports Report ELMIRA — The Elmira Express have gotten back to work as they prepare to kick off their baseball season next week.
“It feels great,” Elmira coach Jason Manwaring said of getting back to practice. “Boys have been working extremely hard since last July and we are excited the season is upon us.”
While this week has not been ideal baseball weather, leading to plenty of time in the gym, the first week of practices allowed the team to get on the field a lot.
“We were really fortunate,” Manwaring said. “We were on the field every day except for Friday last week. Our field guys did a great job of getting us on there day one and we took advantage of it. Practiced a while last week.”
Numbers are good for the Express as they prepare to open the season with a game that includes a number of standouts returning from last year’s sectional championship team.
“Great numbers,” Manwaring said. “JV’s had 20 something guys, we had 20 something guys we cut down and we feel like we’ve got a very good group that is going to compete in a very difficult league this year.” ———
