HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: AREA WRESTLERS SET FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2024-02-23)

ALBANY — Sixteen local wrestlers, including 10 from Horesheads, head to Syracuse for the New York State Wrestling Championships this weekend.

Horseheads has 10 wrestlers, Elmira five and Corning one as action starts at MVP Arena at 10 a.m.

The first-round is at 10 a.m., the second round noon and quarterfinal matches at 3 p.m. Consolation round wrestle back matches take part starting at 4:30 p.m.

On Saturday the semifinal and consolation matches start at 9:30 a.m. followed by wrestlebacks and consolation semifinals at 12:30 p.m.

The consolation finals take place at 2 p.m.

The opening ceremonies for the finals are at 5:50 p.m. with the championship finals at 6:05 p.m.

At 101 pounds No. 16 Horseheads’ Josh Knapp (29.8) opens with No. 17 Cameron Crumpler (36-5) of Niagara Falls.

No. 17 Tanner Knapp (28-12) opens at 108 against another Section IV wrestler, No. 16 Peyton Hubbard of Chenango Forks (18-14).

No. 14 Elmira’s Ryder DePadua-Reese (23-7) opens at 116 against No. 18 Aaron Wescott of Cicero-North Syracuse (27-11).

No. 16 Elmira’s J.T. Guyette (22-8) opens at 124 against No. 17 Justin Castillo of Strauss. Anthony’s (29-9).

At 131 No. 14 Cody Dale of Horseheads (29-10) takes on No. 19 Nate Racz of Minisink Valley (27-13). No. 20 Elmira’s Joey Mastrantonio (10-2) opens against No. 13 Landon Copley of Carthage (30-11).

Elmira’s Max Collins is the 21st seed at 138 (20-11) and he opens with No. 12 Shay Sinter of Carthage (38-3).

No. 17 Logan Bruce of Corning (28-13) opens with No. 17 David Khodzhaev of Tottenville at 145.

Lucas Mosher of Horseheads is the 13th seed at 152 at 28-7. He has a first-round bye and then takes on No. 4 Jason Kwaak of Brentwood (30-1).

Horseheads’ Zachary Schrage is the 16th seed at 160 at 32-11 and he opens with No. 17 Isaiah Hockx of Saugerties (23-1).

Horseheads’ Colton Owen is the 18th seed at 19-9 and he opens with No. 15 Konstantin Koufalis at 37-5.

Jaxson Burchard of Horseheads is the 21st seed at 170 at 25-13 and he opens with No. 12 Matt Hoxie of Columbia (32-8).

Horseheads’ Hunter Lavigne is the 16th seed at 190 at 33-7 and he opens with No. 17 Izaiah Green of Bellport at 40-3. Horseheads’ Jacob Bennett (15-15) is the 21st seed and he takes on No. 12 Paul Harley of Shaker (34-9).

Elmira’s Zahkye Jenkins (15-11) is the 17th seed at 215 and he takes on No. 16 Nick Whyte of Shaker (32-14).

Seamus Carroll of Horseheads is the 21st seed at 285 at 25-13. He opens with No. 12 Kevin Crowe-Bailey of Minisink Valley (33-11).
