STSR PRESENTS THE DRAKE HVAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: HORSEHEADS' BONNELL AND CORNING CHRISTIAN'S DRISCOLL (2024-02-22)

Southern Tier Sports Report
There were a lot of great performances this week, leading to some tough choices for the first athlete of the week honors of the season. In the end, it was Horseheads’ Sophia Bonnell and Zhyaire Driscoll of Corning Christian Academy who were named the Southern Tier Sports Report, sponsored by Drake HVAC Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Athletes of the Week.

Horseheads, girls’ basketball
Bonnell had 11 points against Forks in the STAC final, including the game-winning shot as the Blue Raiders won a second straight STAC title.

Bonnell had six in the 4th quarter including a tying three in the quarter and a three that put Horseheads ahead, and was eventually the game-winner in the final 40 seconds.

Fonnell had 17 in the semifinal win over Susquehanna Valley hitting 5 threes.

ZHYAIRE DRISCOL
Corning Christian School, boys’ basketball
Driscoll had a big week as Corning Christian reached the ESCAL final, falling on a buzzer-beater by a point.

Driscoll had 12 in a win over Baldwinsville Christian, with five blocks, and had 25 points and 11 rebounds in the final against Finger Lakes Christian.

Driscoll was a part of a big turnaround for Corning Christian, who finished the season 6-2 after winning only one game the past three seasons.
