HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: ELMIRA HAS TWO CHAMPS, FIVE STATE QUALIFIERS AT SECTION 4 WRESTLING (19 PHOTOS) (2024-02-10)

BINGHAMTON — The Elmira Express had two champions and five state qualifiers during a strong day at the Section IV, Division I Championships.

“Our guys battled tough all day,” Elmira coach Dave Guyette said. “We had a good tournament. I am extremely impressed with our two champions JT (Guyette) and Ryder (DePadua-Reese). They both wrestled dominant all day.

“Joey (Mastrantonio, Max (Collins) and Zahkye (Jenkins) had great tournaments, but came up short in the finals. We will get back to the wrestling room and get prepared for the state tournament. It is exciting to send five to the states. I am very proud of thise team and the other place finishers. The boys battled tough.”

Ryder DaPadua-Reese won the title at 116. He had a 15-9 win and then a pin in 3:33 to claim the title.

Mastrantonio won a 15-0 technical fall match and then had a pin in 2:45 to get into the final, where he lost by injury default to Cody Dale of Horseheads in 4:21.

Collins had a pin in 3:58 and one in 2:41 to get to the final where he was edged 6-5 by Ithaca’s Quentin Getzin.

Jenkins had a pin in 1:11 and one in 3:06 to get into the final, where he fell by fall in 3:30 to top-seed Jaylon Yearwood of U-E at 215.

Guyette had three pins to claim the title at 124. He had a pin in 31 seconds, a pin in 3:53 and a pin in 1:56 in the final.

Sam Brenen-Buseck was third at 170. He had a pin in 3:27 to get into the semis, where he fell to Horseheads’ Jaxson Burchard. Brenen-Buseck won by fall in 3:41 to get into the third-place match, which he won 7-1.

Dameon Barner took fourth at 101 pounds. He had a pin in 59 seconds to get into the third-place match.

Matthew Brown took sixth at 160. He had a pin in 2:34 to get into the fifth-place match.

Kristian Knox took fourth at 190. He had a pin in 4:36. He fell to top-seed Hunter Lavigne of Horseheads by fall in 3:04 in the semis. He had a pin in 2:21 to get into the third-place match.

Jayden Conklin took fifth at 108. Ben Guyette was 0-2 at 131. Liam Ogden went 0-2 at 145. Arius Bradbury went 0-2 at 152.

Mackenna Burnett took fifth for the girls at 132 pounds. Burnette had a pin in 57 seconds and she won by forfeit in the fifth-place match.

For the girls Alexis Collins took third at 94 pounds.

Mackenzee Davis took fourth at 235. She dropped her first match, but won by fall in 1:38 then by fall in 2:58 over Ellisa Bly of Horseheads to get into the third-place match. She lost her first round, and third-place match to the same wrestler, Ava Stacy of Binghamton-Seton Catholic.
