HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: ELMIRA PICKS UP WIN OVER CORNING (24 PHOTOS) (2024-02-09) Southern Tier Sports Report CORNING — The Elmira girls’ basketball team went on the road and picked up a 54-39 win over Corning on Thursday night.
“Kids did a really good job tonight with composure and rallying together to come out with a win,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said. “Starting to put some things together at the right time. We want to be playing our best as we head into sectionals.”
Elmira jumped out to an 18-10 lead after one quarter and led 29-15 at the half on their way to the win.
Ellie Clearwater finished with 20 points for Elmira, hitting three threes in the game.
Mariah Matias had 12 points for the Express, six in the fourth quarter, and Alyvia Woodruff had seven points, while Addison Taft had six points.
Caitlyn Wagner finished with four points for Elmira and Meya Smith had three points, while Ashaya Wallace finished with two points.
Charlise Starns led Corning with 15 points, including eight in the fourth quarter.
Taylor Evans had seven points and Deanna Shadduck finished with five points.
