Newark Valley senior Cha Gardner posted a triple-double, and became the all-time leading scorer in school history, while Troy junior Jack Burgage had a big week in helping his team to a 3-0 mark. They are The Sports Reports / Ziff Law Firm Regional “Athletes of the Week.”

NEWARK VALLEY’S GARDNER NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL GIRLS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Gardner became the all-time leading scorer in school history, surpassing the boys leader Tuesday and the girls all-time leader Denise Pitcher on Friday. She finished the week with 1,280 points; the previous record was 1,269.

Gardner had 27 points in a 51-15 win over Lansing Tuesday and 15 in a 39-37 victory against Class AAA Elmira Wednesday. She tacked on 15 more when the Cardinals downed Elmira Notre Dame, 51-25, on Friday.

She recorded a triple-double against Elmira and a double-double against Notre Dame, and averaged 19 points, 16 rebounds, 7.7 blocks, 5 assists and 3.3 steals.

Athens’ Hanna Rathbun (wrestling); Wyalusing’s Rachel Wilson (basketball), North Penn-Mansfield’s Kameron Lightner (basketball), and Elmira’s Mariah Matias (basketball).

TROY’S BURBAGE NAMED ZIFF LAW FIRM REGIONAL BOYS “ATHLETE OF THE WEEK”
Burbage averaged 27.3 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals in per game in wins over North Penn-Mansfield, Athens, and Lewisburg.

Burbage recorded 30 points, seven rebounds, and three steals against NTL Large School Division runner-up NP-Mansfield, then had 29 points, 11 rebound, and five steals in division-clinching win over Athens.

He wrapped up his week with 23 points, five rebounds, and one steal against Lewisburg.
