HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' BASKETBALL: ELMIRA GETS OFF TO FAST START IN WIN OVER BINGHAMTON (2024-02-06)

ELMIRA — The Elmira girls’ basketball team picked up a big win at home on Tuesday, topping Binghamton, 56-35.

“Good win tonight,” Elmira coach A’Don Allen said. “Looking to playing stronger as the season winds down. We want to be playing our best basketball as we head toward the postseason and tonight was a step in that direction.”

Ellie Clearwater led the Express with 23 points, including eight in the second quarter.

Freshman Mariah Matias had 20 points for Elmira, 12 of them coming in the opening quarter as Elmira got off to a fast start leading 19-3 after one quarter.

Alyvia Woodruff had five points for Elmira and Laila Burchard and Caitlyn Wagner had four points each.

Maddy Fann had 13 points to lead Binghamton.
