STSR PRESENTS THE DRAKE HVAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: ELMIRA'S BELLOMA AND MATIAS (2024-02-06)

There were a lot of great performances this week, leading to some tough choices for the first athlete of the week honors of the season. In the end, it was Elmira’s Trent Belloma and Mariah Matias who were named the Southern Tier Sports Report, sponsored by Drake HVAC Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Athletes of the Week.

MARIAH MATIAS
Elmira, girls’ basketball
Had a monster game in a win over Ithaca, putting up a career-best 31 points to go with 21 rebounds and six steals.

It was the second career high for Matias in one week as she had a 30 point game against Vestal earlier in the week. She also had a double-double in that game with 10 boards, four blocks and two steals.

She also had 12 points, including the game-tying basket with 6.7 seconds left against Newark Valley, before Newark Valley won at the buzzer.

TRENT BELLOMA
Elmira, bowling
Shot a. 778 series in a win over Vestal. He had a high game of 287 on the day, along with games of 234 and 257.
