HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING: CORNING BOYS, ELMIRA GIRLS CLAIM STAC CHAMPIONSHIP TITLES, NELSON SHOOTS 799 SERIES FOR CORNING (2024-02-05)

VESTAL — The Corning boys and Elmira girls each brought home STAC Championship titles on Monday at the STAC Championships at Midway Lanes.

For Corning it was their third title in the past four years.

The Elmira JV boys also won the STAC title, while the Elmira boys won the end of season tournament.

On the boys side Corning had four of the top five series on the day. Corning shot 1,153, 1,130 and 1,099 to shoot 3,382 total, winning by 360 pins over runner-up Owego (1,042, 964 and 1,016).

For the girls Elmira shot 918, 801 and 848 for a 2,567, topping runner-up Windsor by 33 pins. Windsor shot 875-768-891-2,534.

For JV boys Elmira shot 1,126, 1,012 and 963 for a 3,101, while Union-Endicott was second at 874-907-897-2,678.

Peyton Nelson of Corning had the high series on the day in the STAC Championship, shooting a 799 series with games of 267, 274 and 258.

Corning’s Cameron Kennedy had the second best series with a 756, shooting 258, 243 and 255.

Corning’s Camryn Stefanini had the fourth best series shooting 258-234-183-675, followed by teammate Zach Sturdevant at 198-238-221-657. Corning’s Max Aponte shot 172-141-182-495.

Nelson also had the second, third and tied for fourth best games of the day.

On the girls side Elmira’s Abbi Hink had the high series on the day with a 242-177-189-608 followed by teammate Madison Smith at 167-220-212-599. Elmira’s Bella Wood shot 192-156-171-519. Elmira’s Madison Wasicki shot 160-126-150-436 and Kaybreanna Ervay shot 157-122-126-405.

For JV boys Carter Gardner of Elmira had the high series with a 254-232-209-695. Elmira’s Jaxon Brooks had the third best series at 231-206-200-637 and Phillip Addington had the fifth highest series at 223-174-207-604 followed by Nick German at 237-189-157-583 and Peyton Rozelle at 181-211-190-582.

For the end of season tournament Elmira shot a 3,305 with a high game of 1,128, to top Waverly who shot 3,268 with a high game of 1,115.

On the girls side Corning was second at 2,548 with a high game of 902. Horseheads was third at 2,321 with a high game of 782. Union-Endicott won at 2,573 and a high game of 877.

For the end of season tournament Elmira’s Alex Gublo had the third best series at 723 followed by teammate Alex Smith at 711. Frankie D’Angelo shot 665, the seventh best series, and Trent Belloma was ninth best at 654. Horseheads was led by Andrew Bauman at 610. Derek Johnson of Waverly had the top series at 779.

Johnson had the high game at 296, followed by Gublo at 268. Bauman had a 246, Belloma had a 244, D’Angelo had a 244, Smith had a 244, Noah Cady of Horseheads had a 234 and Skylar Shadduck of Elmira had a 226.

For the girls Jen Mattison of Horseheads had the high series at 607. Corning’s Alexa VanAlstine had the fourth best series at 554 and Kylie Downing of Corning was sixth at 541 with Jadyn O’Dell of Corning eighth at 520, followed by Maddie Jerzak of Horseheads at 517.

Mattison had the high game at 221 and Downing had a 202, while VanAlstine and Jerzak each had games of 201 and O’Dell had a 189.

Gublo shot 268-239-216-723 and Smith shot 224-244-243-711. Shadduck shot 226 for one game and D’Angelo shot 199-222-244-665.

Belloma shot 244-211-199-654 and Bauman shot 173-191-246-610.

Cady shot 234-211-147-592 and Michael Rennells of Horseheads shot 175-218-191-584.

Zach Kathan of Horseheads shot 180-201-192-573 and Landon Ayres of Horseheads shot 166-166-332 for two games. Logan Card shot 182-144-326 for two games for Elmira and Cayden Bowman shot 153 for one game for Horseheads.

For the girls Mattison had games of 198-188-221 for a 607 and VanAlstine shot 201-175-178-554. Downing shot 192-202-147-541. O’Dell shot 161-170-189-520 and Jerzak shot 201-169-147-517. Zoe Harmer of Corning shot 158-178-145-481 and Ayden Hartford shot 138-177-137-452.

Horseheads’ Liv Rightmire shot 138-148-151-437 and Haley Stone of Horseheads shot 121-153-117-391. Alex Cole of Horseheads shot 118-124-127-369.
