HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING: LOCALS OFF TO STRONG START AT STAC CHAMPIONSHIPS (24 PHOTOS) (2024-01-19)
Southern Tier Sports ReportHORSEHEADS — It was a strong start for area wrestlers at the STAC Wrestling Championships on Friday night.
At 101 pounds Horseheads’ Josh Knapp opened with a 9-0 major decision to reach the semifinals.
Elmira’s Dameon Barner and Tristin Quanz are alive in the wrestle backs at 101.
Noah Miller of Horseheads opened with a 4-2 win at 108, fell to top-seeded Anthony Valls of Chenango Valley and is alive in the wrestle backs.
Jayden Conklin is alive in the wrestle backs and Horseheads’ Tanner Knapp opened with a pin in 1:29, fell to second-seeded Maverick Beckwith of Norwich and is alive in the consolation round.
At 116 top-seeded Ryder DePadua-Reese of Elira opened with a pin in 2:56 and is in the semifinals, where he will meet Aiden Culshaw of Horseheads. Culshaw pinned Corning’s Conner Crum-Borwn in 1:36, Crum-Brown is alive in the wrestle backs, and then Culshaw got a 16-8 major decision win in the quarterfinals.
Joel Scibek of Horseheads is also in the semifinals, as the second seed had a pin in 45 seconds.
J.T. Guyette of Elmira had a 14-4 major decision win in the quarterfinals to reach the 124-pound semis. Zack Bennett of Horseheads is alive in the wrestle backs.
Horseheads’ Cody Dale is in the 131 semifinals after the top-seed had a pin in 55 seconds in the quarterfinals.
Horeheads’ Kole Zufall is alive in the wrestle backs. Elmira’s Ben Guyette went 0-2 on the day.
Max Collins of Elmira opened with a win by fall in 3:39 at 138 and Matthew Mahon of Corning had a 6-1 win to start the day. Both are alive in wrestle backs. Jack Clate of Horseheads went 0-2 on the day.
Coleton Owen opened with a 5-0 win in the quarterfinals and is in the 145-pound semifinals. Seth Loucks had a win 8-6 to start the day and fell to top seeded Daniel Parker at 145 and is alive in the wrestle backs.
Top-seeded Lucas Mosher of Horseheads had a pin in 54 seconds at 152 to make the semifinals. Second-seeded Logan Bruce of Elmira had a 18-2 technical fall win and a pin in 3:01 to reach the semifinals.
Jaxson Burchard had a pin in 5:21 to start the day and is alive in the wrestle backs. Arius Bradbury of Elmira went 0-1 and forfeited out of the tournament to teammate Scott Fairbanks, who is alive in wrestle backs.
Top-seeded Zachary Schrage of Horseheads had a pin in 3:21 to reach the 160-pound semifinals. Tyler Farrand of Corning won by technical fall 15-0 and the two will meet in the semifinals.
Clayton Smith gives area schools three in the semifinals as the Corning wrestler won 10-2 as the second seed to make the semis.
Matthew Brown of Elmira opened with a 5-4 win in tie-breaker one and is alive in the wrestle backs.
Elmira’s Sam Brenen-Buseck is into the 170-pound semifinals after a pin in 4:00. Elijah Friend of Horseheads is alive in wrestle backs.
Jacob Bennett of Horseheads is into the 190-pound semifinals after a pin in 5:22.
Second-seeded Hunter Lavigne of Horseheads had a pin in 2:29 to make the semifinals.
Riley Peiffer of Corning is alive in the wrestle backs. Kristian Knox of Elmira is also in the wrestle backs.
Shawn LaBar had a pin in 2:27 for Horseheads at 215 and he’s alive in the wrestle backs.
Seamus Carroll of Horseheads and Jordan Lucas of Elmira are alive in wrestle backs at 285.
