HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' BASKETBALL: ELMIRA PICKS UP SECOND WIN OVER HORSEHEADS IN A WEEK (24 PHOTOS) (2024-01-18) Southern Tier Sports Report ELMIRA — For the second time in a week the Elmira Express downed their rivals Horseheads in boys’ basketball, this time coming out on top 61-42.
Elmira has the lead in the STAC West Standings after a comeback win at Horseheads last week and then Thursday night’s victory.
“Horseheads is well coached and has a talented team,” Elmira coach Toby Foster said. “I’m proud of our boys. We played with energy and effort on defense. Strong rebounding effort tonight as well. Extremely proud of our boys.”
On Thursday it was 11-8 Elmira after one quarter, when the Express scored 24 second-quarter points to lead 35-17 at the half.
Chris Woodard had 21 points for Elmira, including 12 in the big second quarter.
Anthony Kitching had nine points for Elmira and Ty Daniel finished with eight points.
Jerry Daniel had six points for Elmira and Jha’Micque Bell had five points, while Louie McHenry finished with four points.
James Harris and Ashtyn Traugott-Knoll each had two points for Elmira.
Jack Fesetch had 11 points for Horseheads, including all eight of Horseheads points in the opening quarter.
Andrew Potter and Alex Daugherty each had eight points for Horseheads and Brayden Kelly and Zach Lese each had five points.
