Southern Tier Sports Report
SAVONA — The Thomas A. Edison Spartans wrestling team was crowned the team champions at the Campbell-Savona Holiday Dual Meet Tournament on Saturday.

Edison finished 3-1 in duals on the day, besting Perry for first place by the tiebreaker of head-to-head results.

“We Spartans were short-handed, missing three starters and seven team members total due to illness, ACT’s and various injuries,” Edison coach Kevin Weber said. “But every kid we brought showed up ready to battle and displayed some of their best wrestling of the season thus far. I could not be any prouder of this group today

“We have an extremely young squad with 13 of our 17 athletes being sophomores or younger, but they have been fearless in facing any and all challenges we as coaches have thrown at them. The effort that is being put in during practices is showing and we are excited to continue building and improving as a team.”

Edison beat Campbell-Savona 45-12, Penn Yan Academy 33-30, Perry 37-36 and fell to Dundee 42-18.

Greg Golden (160) led the team going 4-0 on the day. He finished with three pins and a win in tiebreaker versus David Young of Penn Yan to secure that duals victory for the team.
