OWEGO — It was a classic matchup to start the season as the Elmira boys’ basketball team was edged by Union-Endicott 75-73 in the semifinals of the Charlie Sibley Memorial Tournament on Saturday.

Chris Woodard had a monster opening game with 29 points and 19 rebounds.

Elmira led 36-28 at the half and 54-40 after three quarters, but U-E used a 19-5 fourth quarter to force overtime.

In the second overtime the Express had a chance to tie the game, but U-E got the block to seal the win.

Woodard had at least five points in every quarter.

Louie McHenry had nine points, six in the opening quarter.

James Harris had 18 points along with seven boards and three assists.

Jerry Daniel had six points with four boards and Evan Garvin and Anthony Kitching each had four points. Kitching had three boards.

Tyre Daniel had three points and two boards. Ashtyn Traugott-Knoll had four rebounds.
