HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' SOCCER: FAIRBROTHER HEADLINES ALL-STSR GIRLS' SOCCER TEAM (2023-12-01)

By Brian Fees
Southern Tier Sports Report
It’s not ordinary that a goalie is the player of the year for an all-star team, but then again what Ava Fairbrother did this season for Horseheads was anything but ordinary.

The Blue Raiders senior goalie had 91 saves on the season, many of them of the spectacular fashion, as Horseheads won their first division title in 13 years, reaching the STAC final.

Fairbrother was a STAC All-Conference all-star this year for the second straight season and she is the all-Southern Tier Sports Report Player of the Year and Goalie of the Year.

Elmira’s Mia Capilli had 11 goals and three assists this year, helping the Express win a sectional title and she is the offensive player of the year.

Katie Miley of Horseheads was a force on both offense and defense for the Blue Raiders this year and she is the defensive player of the year. Miley was the backbone of the Horseheads defense, while also scoring nine goals on offense.

Horseheads’ Maddie Ribble had nine goals as a freshman, tying for the team scoring lead, and she is the newcomer of the year.

After Horseheads won the division title, reached the STAC final and sectional semifinals and coach Lee Spencer is the coach of the year.

We have an Elite 8 all-star team of the top eight players in the area and then there is an all-star first and second team and rookie team.
