HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: LOCALS HELP TEAM DAVIS WIN BIG 44 GAME IN FINAL SECONDS (14 PHOTOS) (2023-11-20)
Southern Tier Sports ReportENDICOTT — The Section IV team picked up a win on a touchdown with one second left as Team Davis beat Team Little in the Big 44 game.
Team Davis represented Section IV, while Team Little was the seniors from Section III.
Union-Endicott’s Cooper Hughes hauled in a 16-yard pass from Johnson City’s Peyton Brzozowy with one second left to seal the win for Team Davis, who trailed by 14-0 with seven minutes left in the game and were down 17-8 with just under a minute left.
Neither team scored in the first half, before Gabron Polk hauled in a 71-yard pass from Ty’nez Harp to get Team Little on the board at 8:00 of the third quarter. Laramy Velasquez-Ramirez made the extra point to make it 7-0.
With nine minutes left in the game Jaiden Holmes caught a 42-yard pass from Harp and Velasquez-Ramirez hit the kick.
Team Davis got a three-yard run from Ithaca’s Daniel Parker with seven minutes left and Brzozowy connected with Angelo Kryston on the two-point try.
Team Davis recorded a safety with 58 seconds left to cut the deficit to four setting up the game winner with a second left.
Horseheads’ Bradock Salisbury led Team Davis in tackles with six and teammate Josh McCawley forced a fumble and had three tackles, while Fans Scanlon-Shaw had three tackles and Dylan Chalk had two tackles.
Colby Phraner of Walton had four tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery and Tanner Bracchy of Delaware Academy had a tackle, an interception, with a 32-yard return, and forced a fumble on an onside kick.
Brzozowy was 13-for-27 passing for 115 yards and a score.
Newark Valley’s Dan Truesdail ran for 55 yards on 13 carries to lead Team Davis and Przozowy ran for 37 yards, while Parker had 21 yards on the ground.
Hughes had seven catches for 54 yards and Delaware Academy’s Noah Duggan had three grabs for 42 yards, while Parker, Truesdail and Kryzston all had catches.
Harp, of Fowler High School, was 4-for-5 passing for 175 yards and two scores and Evan Carlson-Stephenson of Rome Free Academy was 10-for-15 for 84 yards.
Devonayre Priester of Fowler caught four balls for 26 yards and Jaysin Bliss of Solvay ran for 22 yards.
Polk, of Bishop Ludden, had two grabs for 109 yards and Holmes, of Rome Free Academy, had five catches of 88 yards.
Nathan Williams of CNS had two grabs for 36 yards and Trsitan Johnson of CNS had 15 yards on two catches, while Henninger’s Ijahmere Battle, Trey O’Rourke of Camden and Devine Bennett of CNS had catches.
Edison football also had two players in the game with Garrison Balash and Brycen Gunnip both taking part for Team Davis.
