HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS' SWIMMING: HORSEHEADS SWIMMERS EXCITED FOR STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS (2023-11-16)

A big weekend at the sectional championships means that the Horseheads Blue Raiders will have a big group of athletes heading to the NYSPHSAA Swimming & Diving Championships at Webster Aquatic Center starting Friday.

The Blue Raiders 200 medley relay of Anna and Sibby Lowe, Karina Lapierre and Megan Janeski are seeded 26th in the 200 medley relay in 1:52.05.

The 200 free relay of Sibby and Anna Lowe, Janeski and Mia Carro are seeded 11th in the 200 free relay in 1:40.26.

Sibby Lowe is the 13th seed in the 50 free in 24.31. The top seed is Corning’s state champion Angie McKane at 23.08.

Sibby Lowe is the 30th seed in the 100 fly in 58.96. McKane is again the top seed at 53.69.

For Carro and Lapierre this is a new experience going to states.

“I am super, duper extra excited because Ive never been to states before and this is a new experience,” Lapierre said.

“I’m very excited since it’s a new experience with faster competition,” Carro added.

For the Blue Raiders having a big group of athletes going to states again this year makes it extra fun.

“It feels like we are going to have more energy and overall lots of laughs,” Janeski said.

“It’s really really special how many younger girls that are able to experience this,” Sibby Lowe said.

With a bunch of underclassmen this means that there are more chance to make states in the future as well.

“We are very excited to see what next year brings as well,” Janeski said.

For the relays the hope is to medal and drop time from sectionals.

“An ultimate goal would be to podium in either relay,” Janeski said. “I hope we can achieve the time we had at sectionals, or even faster.”

“I’d have to agree with Gabby and the end goal would be to either podium, or drop time,” Anna Lowe said.

For Sibby Lowe it will be a busy weekend with a full slate of four events to swim.

“It will be a lot of fun,” she said. “I’m looking forward to the fourth events that I’ve worked so hard toward all season.”

Being seeded just outside the top 10 in the 50 free Lowe knows she needs to swim hard and not worry about where she places.

“I need to just swim my heart out and not stress,” she said. “It would be really cool (to make a final), but we will see what happens.”

Just going back to states is special for Sibby Lowe.

“It’s really exciting because I get to share it with all my other teammates,” she said.
