COLLEGE MEN'S SOCCER: TENBUS AND THE GANNON MEN'S SOCCER TEAM SET TO PLAY IN NCAA TOURNEY (2023-11-16)

Horseheads graduate Nate Tenbus and the Gannon University men’s soccer team has enjoyed an outstanding season to date and the Golden Knights found out on Monday night that campaign will continue. Head coach Billy Colton's squad has been chosen as the No. 60 seed in Super Region 1 as announced during the NCAA Division II Selection Show.

Gannon will enter NCAA Tournament play with a 16-1-2 record and were ranked seventh in the final United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25. The Golden Knights finished as the Western Division regular season champion and were just the second team in Gannon history to finish the regular season without a loss. The Golden Knights suffered their lone loss of the season last Friday against West Chester in the PSAC Semifinals, losing 2-1.

A total of 10 teams were selected for the Super Region 1 Tournament, with three teams hosting games. Gannon makes its second appearance in the last three years and third under head coach Billy Colton. The Golden Knights come in with a 16-1-2 record and will play at No. 3 seed Millersville (14-2-3). The Marauders won the PSAC championship on Sunday with a 1-0 win over West Chester. The date and time will be announced.

Defending national champion Franklin Pierce (16-0-2) is the number one seed in Super Region 1. They will play the winner of the 8-9 game, with Bloomsburg (10-3-5) seeded eighth and Southern New Hampshire (10-5-4) ninth. No. 4 Post (13-1-5) faces No. 5 West Chester (11-5-4).

The bottom half of the bracket finds Charleston (18-1-0) as the number seed and host, facing the winner of the No. 7 Notre Dame (Ohio) (11-3-4)-No. 5 Queens (NY) (11-7-2) match.   

Gannon swept the recent PSAC postseason awards, with Colton named the PSAC West Coach of the Year, Tinashe Katsande (Norwich, England/Dereham Sixth Form College) the Athlete of the Year, Pau Ferrer (Valencia, Spain/ISES Isabel de Villena) the Defensive Player of the Year, and Rafa Hyde (São José dos Campos, Brazil) the Freshman of the Year.

Colton's squad has set a school record for goals with 69. Katsande is tied for fourth in Division II in goals with 17 and is third in points with 44. Ferrer leads the country in assists with 15.
