HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: EDISON EXCITED TO GET ONE MORE GAME (2023-11-04)

Southern Tier Sports Report
For the Edison football team the thought was last week could have been the end of the season, but the Spartans were able to add a game and now they are on the road at Cooperstown this week.

“They are pumped about having one more week of football,” Edison coach Kyle Erickson said. “Seniors are excited for one more game and the underclassmen are excited to get some more work. More reps for our younger players is never a bad thing. They are looking forward to having the opportunity for one more game.

“It’s always nice to give them one more game. Football is a sport that there are not many opportunities to keep playing the game after high school. For most of the seniors this is most likely their last game in full pads, so being able to get them one more game has the whole team excited for them.”

The matchup is against a team the Spartans don’t know much about as they are from out of the area as Edison goes on a long road trip.

“We really don’t know much about them,” Erickson said. “They reached out to us. We both were looking for another game so it just worked out. Excited to provide one more oppournty to play football for both teams.”

The Spartans know on offense they have to be able to finish drives.

“We need to play a mistake free game and not turn over the football. We must finish our drives with points,” Erickson said.

On dense the key is limiting big plays.

“This week we want to try and limit big plays and do our 1/8th,” Erickson said. “Put together a full four quarter defensive effort.”
