HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' SOCCER: SEASON ENDS FOR ND BOYS IN SECTIONAL SEMIS (2023-10-24)
Southern Tier Sports ReportONEONTA — The season came an end for the Notre Dame boys’ soccer team in the sectional semifinals as they fell to Edmeston 1-0 on Tuesday.
“I’m proud of the boys for playing a tough game two hours away and competing the way they did,” Notre Dame coach Josh Miller said. “It’s important to know that the boys played their hardest and competed against circumstances out of their control. We go again next year.”
Notre Dame says goodbye to a group of six seniors who did a lot for the program.
“It has been an absolute pleasure and honor to coach great players, but even better people,” Miller said. “Thank you for being coachable and giving me that opportunity. I wish you all the best of luck in the future. Please don’t be shy and stop by some sessions when you’re back in town.”
The six seniors are David Bermejo, Vincent Campanelli, Kevin Green, Jose Marcotti Neto, Liam Schweizer and Logan Meisner.
Miller had thoughts on each senior:
BERMEJO: David has been nothing but an asset to Elmira Notre Dame since he arrived last year. We will miss his runs in behind, ability to dribble the opponent, and one or two word phrases.
CAMPANELLI: Vinny always wore his heart on his sleeve and put in countless fantastic performances during his time at Notre Dame. We will miss Vinny’s passion, voice, dedication and determination to the team.
GREEN: Kev played multiple roles for me since I arrived and thrived in whatever I asked him to do on the field. We will miss Kev’s sweet left foot, soccer IQ, and his ability to dedicate games.
NETO: Jose made an instant impact when he arrived here last year. He scored some of the most unbelievable goals I have seen, at this level and higher for that matter. We will miss Jose’s leadership and passion for the team and the beautiful game.
SCHWEIZER: Liam positively impacted the team and played multiple positions in his first year of varsity soccer. He always exhibited qualities of an outstanding individual. We will miss Liam’s character, communication, and commitment to the team.
MEISNER: Logan is the definition of a team player and showed his leadership qualities throughout the year in his first varsity soccer season. We will miss Logan’s sense of humor, charisma and dedication to the team.
