HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: EDISON SET FOR HOME CONTEST WITH WEEDSPORT (2023-10-20)
Southern Tier Sports ReportAfter a tough loss to Groton last week the Edison football team is turning the page as they host Weedsport this week.
“We are focused and ready to go,” Edison coach Kyle Erickson said. “Last week’s game is in the past, we are moving forward and preparing for Weedsport.”
Edison got behind early on a rainy day against Groton, and they know getting off to a fast start this week is a key.
“It’s important to start fast for us in any game,” Erickson said. “They are a very good team and put us in a hole early and took advantage of our mistakes.”
Despite the loss the Spartans defense has continued to make play, forcing three turnovers again last week.
“The defense has worked hard all year and we always tell the guys to do their 1/8th,” Erickson said. “When we do that and hustle to the football good things happen for us.”
The Spartans know they face a tough test this week.
“They look like they are a very disciplined, and well coached team, with multiple guys with speed on offense,” Erickson said.
On offense a big key is limiting mistakes and finishing drives.
“We must start in a positive way, put together a drive,” Erickson said. “We cannot turn over the football.”
On defense the Spartans know they have to limit the run.
“We must play assignment football, doing our jobs,” Erickson said. “We must set the edge and contain the run.”
