HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: EDISON HOME AGAINST GROTON FOR HOMECOMING GAME (2023-10-13)
Southern Tier Sports ReportELMIRA HEIGHTS — The Edison football team is home for homecoming week as they play host to Groton this week.
“They are excited and ready to go,” Edison coach Kyle Erickson said. “It’s homecoming week with all the festivities, they are really looking forward to it.”
The Spartans are coming off a hard-fought loss at Bishop Grimes in a low-scoring game last week and the Spartans know the offense will come, they just nee to keep working
“We just need to keep working hard,” Erickson said. ‘We have been able to move the football, just seem to struggle with those last few yards. Kids are motivated this week and our working hard.”
Edison knows they face a tough test in Groton.
“They are a very good and a tough football team,” Erickson said. “They are ranked eighth in the state in eight man for a reason and they are a very good and well coached team.”
On offense the Spartans know they have to finish drive, and on defense they have to be fundamentally sound.
“We must end our drives with points on the scoreboard,” Erickson said. “We must control the ball and keep it out of their explosive offense.
“We must play assignment football (on defense) and we have to contain their speed.”
