Southern Tier Sports Report
ELMIRA — The Elmira golf team had two golfers shoot 79 and four shoot 82 or lower as they won their first ever STAC Championship at Mark Twain Golf Course on Tuesday.

Elmira won the title with a score of 408, while Union-Endicott finished at 417 and Vestal was at 418.

“I am obviously very proud of the way the boys handled themselves not only today, but throughout the season,” Elmira coach Chris Sayers said of the Express, who qualified for the STAC Championships as a team after winning the STAC West. “They were all able to manage their games efficiently in the cold and windy conditions today, understanding that bogeys will happen, and pars will be valuable.”

The day didn’t start out perfectly, but the Elmira golfers kept working all round and brought home the title.

“A couple got off to difficult starts, but they kept a positive attitude through a difficult day, and it paid off for us as a team,” Sayers said. “Congratulations to a hard-working team, many whom are seniors, who put in the time and effort to capture the first STAC Championship for the Elmira Express.”

Brady Magliocca and Jackson Cavalier tied for fourth on the day with rounds of 79.

Bobby Cavalier and Cooper Taft tied for 12th with rounds of 82.

Ben Rhode tied for 22nd with a round of 86. Bryce Mashnic tied for 34th with a round of 91.

Corning’s Bryce Clark and Trevor Bois each tied for 34th with rounds of 91 and Gavin Walker tied for 49th with a 96.

Maine-Endwell’s Blaise Brixner won the title with a 71, topping the field by seven shots.

U-E’s Dante Bertoni and Tino Shattuck of Maine-Endwell tied for second at a 78.

Matt Folli of U-E tied for fourth at 79 followed by U-E’s Drew Karedes and Bennett Snyder of Vestal. Ithaca’s Sam Harris, Chase Buckley of M-E and Vestal’s Michael Hotalen tied for ninth.
