HIGH SCHOOL BOYS' SOCCER: HORSEHEADS BLANKS STATE-RANKED ITHACA FOR 2ND TIME IN WEEK (2023-10-08)

ITHACA — The Horseheads boys’ soccer team went on the road and picked up a 2-0 win over the fifth-ranked Class AA team in the state, Ithaca.

“Hard fought match by both teams, but Horseheads played solid defensively and took advantage of our opportunities,” Horseheads coach Mark Mucci said. “Really proud of the way the boys played tonight.”

Ben Church and Elijah Friend had first-half goals for Horseheads.

Jake Bennett had seven saves to record his seventh shutout of the season. It was the second shutout against Ithaca this week for the Blue Raiders goalie.

Horseheads win avoided a tie between Corning and Ithaca in the STAC West, allowing the Corning Hawks to win the STAC West crown.
