HIGH SCHOOL GOLF: MAGLIOCCA TAKES OFURTH AT CLASS A CHAMPIONSHIPS TO HEAD LOCAL CONTINGENT (24 PHOTOS) (2023-10-03) Southern Tier Sports Report HORSEHEADS — Elmira’s Brady Magliocca finished fourth to highlight the locals at the Section IV Class A Championships on Monday at Soaring Eagles.
Elmira took fourth as a team at 419, just 16 points out of first (Maine-Endwell at 403), and only two points behind third-place Vestal and seven points behind second-place U-E.
Horseheads was fifth at 436 and Corning was eighth at 507.
In Class B Norwich won at 438 followed by Owego at 467.
Magliocca shot a 78 to take fourth. Dante Bertoni, last year’s state champion, won with a 70, followed by Maine-Endwell’s Joey Dell (72) and Blaise Brixner (73).
Horseheads’ Jack Fesetch was eighth at 81. Cooper Taft of Elmira was tied for 10th at 83.
Elmira’s Jackson Cavalier tied for 10th at 83 followed by Horseheads’ Jacob Staats (84) and Hunter Earl (84). Ben Rhode of Elmira tied for 18th at 85.
Elmira’s Robby Cavalier was tied for 26th at 90. Corning’s Trevor Bois was tied for 31st at 91.
Ayden Mekos of Horseheads tied for 34th at 93 and Horseheads’ Seamus Lynch was 37th at 94.
Corning’s Sam Masaki was 38th at 95 and teammate Ethan Ford was 42nd at 99 followed by Chase Mashanic of Horseheads at 100 and Bryce Mashanic of Elmira at 102.
Carter Smithmen of Corning shot 109 to take 46th followed by teammates Dom DiNardo (113) and Finn Barber (114).
In Class B Talan Schmacher of Owego won with a 79, followed by teammate Patrick Tammariello and Jacob Morris of Norwich at 81. ——— PHOTOS BY BRIAN FEES.
