HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: HORSEHEADS LOOKS TO GO TO 4-0 AS THEY HEAD TO NORWICH (2023-09-22)
Southern Tier Sports ReportFor the third time in four weeks the Horseheads football team goes on the road for a long trip as they head out to Norwich for a game.
“It can be extremely difficult,” Horseheads coach Kevin Hillman said. “Those long rides can take a lot out of you. At times it can take a few series to get the intensity back up. That said we really have to try and stay mentally tough and not come out flat.”
The Blue Raiders know they face another tough test against Norwich.
“They are a really good football team,” Hillman said. “They have playmakers and they are a physical football team. They are well coached and I anticipate they will be ready for us. If we come out flat we could find ourself in a hole right off the bat.”
Horseheads is 3-0 on the year and feeling good, but they know they can’t let up.
“I think the kids are feeling confident, but still understand that any lapse of cops can cost us an opportunity for a win,” Hillman said.
Offensively the Blue Raiders have been dominant running the ball this year, but they know they need to have balance this week.
“I think we need to have a little more mix of run and pass this week,” Hillman said. “Need to do a better job of keeping the defense off balanced.”
On defensive the Blue Raiders have to be aggressive.
“Bottom line, we need to play physical and aggressive,” Hillman said.
