STSR PRESENTS THE DRAKE HVAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: CORNING'S FREEMAN AND TERWILLIGER (2023-09-17)

Southern Tier Sports Report
There were a lot of great performances this week, leading to some tough choices for the athlete of the week honors. In the end, it was Corning’s Brooke Terwilliger and James Freeman who are the Southern Tier Sports Report, sponsored by Drake HVAC Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning Athletes of the Week.

JAMES FREEMAN
CORNING, FOOTBALL

The Corning junior did everything he could to help the Corning Hawks in a matchup with state-ranked CBA.

Freeman had three touchdowns, one on the ground and two through the air. Two of those touchdowns were at least 40 yards. He also caught a big two-point conversion to help Corning take a two-score lead in the third quarter.

Freeman finished the game with 253 yards between the air and ground. He had 163 yards rushing on 18 carries for the Hawks, and had two catches for 90 yards, both of those catches for touchdowns. He had all the receiving yards for the Hawks in the game.

He was also a standout on the defensive side of the ball, racking up 10 tackles and a sack in the game.

BROOKE TERWILLIGER
CORNING, DIVING

The Corning senior broke the Section IV record for diving at a meet against Johnson City this week.

Terwilliger had a six-dive score of 341.65 during the meet.

The time easily qualifies Terwilliger for states again. A year ago she was a state medalist.

Terwilliger shattered the old sectional record, by more than 20 points, which was 318.10 by Kailee Payne of Ithaca in 2021.
