VERONA — The Corning girls took second at the pre-state meet at the Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Cross Country Invitational, while the boys finished fifth on the day.

In the girls race Bethlehem Catholic won the varsity 3 race with Corning second. Bethlehem had 34 points and Corning had 76.

Sarah Lawson took third in the varsity 3 race in 19:25.5. Ithaca’s Tsadia Bercuvitz won the race in 18:36.2.

Sadie Beres was 16th for the Hawks in 21:10.2 and Olivia Murch was 22nd in 21:43.1.

Meghan McLaughlin was 25th in 21:55.9 followed by Lauren Roche (22:01.5).

Taylor Farrell was 38th in 22:39.9 followed by Faith Tubbs (22:40.7). Maddie Sweet was 46th in 22:33.6, Elianna Schneider was 48th in 23:38.8 and Jenna Rosenkrans was 53rd in 24:01.3.

Kendall Curreri was 56th in 24:09.9 and Christina Peet was 62nd in 24:28.9 and Joy Morey was 79th in 25:20.9, while Abby Reppert was 90th in 25:59.7.

Corning was also second in the JV race as Tubbs, Sweet, Schneider, Rosenkrans and Curreri made up the top five in that race, with Tubbs fifth in the JV race.

In the boys race Boutwell was 10th in 17:10.5 to lead the Hawks and DJ Cornfield was 13th in 17:26.9.

Ithaca’s Noah Hilker won the race in 16:37.3.

Gregory Homa was 17th for the Hawks in 17:41.8. Nicholas Ferratella was 34th in 18:27.5 and Bryce Hammond was 47th in 19:10.0 while Aidan Kahabka was 52nd in 19:27.1.

Samuel Segal was 73rd in 20:04.1 and Ashtyn Stark was 81st in 20:21.7. Mark Sierzant was 87th in 20:33.6 and Michael Naylor was 94th in 20:39.6.

Maxwell Jennings was 96th in 20:44.9 and Nathaniel Jennings was 109th in 21:06.1. Dylan Rose was 124th in 21:30.

For the boys Corning had 114 points in the varsity 3 race. Ithaca won at 41 points. In the JV race Corning was also fifth.

Stark, Sierzant, Naylor and Maxwell and Nathaniel Jennings made up the top five for JV. Stark was 24th and Sierzant 25th in the JV race.
