HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL: HORSEHEADS GOES ON THE ROAD LOOKING TO GO 3-0 (2023-09-15)

The 2-0 Horseheads football team hits the road this week looking to make it 3-0 as they head to Corcoran.

“Kids feel good,” Horseheads coach Kevin Hillman said. “Got some injuries we are keeping an eye on, but all in all we are ready to go.”

While the first two games have been good, the focus now is on week three.

“I think we just need to focus on the now and this week’s opponent,” Hillman said. “The first two weeks are over, and all our focus needs to be on Corcoran.”

The Blue Raiders know they face a tough test.

“They got some big guys and they are athletic,” Hillman said. “I think they can really give some teams fits with their athleticism and big play possibilities.”

Corcoran comes in 1-0 after a 53-8 win over Fulton. The Blue Raiders know one of the big things is to just keep improving what they do.

“I think the key for us this week is to keep improving offensively,” Hillman said. “Try to have good, long sustaining drives. I think we do need to mix it up a little bit more with the passing game. They are an aggressive defense, so we need to keep the off balance.”

On defense Horseheads knows that containing the big plays is important.

“Defensively we just got to keep doing what we do and limit the big plays,” Hillman said. “These guys can score in a heartbeat so we have to make them work at every drive and not give up any big plays.”
