HIGH SCHOOL 8-MAN FOOTBALL: AFTER BIG WIN LAST WEEK, SPARTANS GO ON THE ROAD LOOKING TO GO 2-0 (2023-09-15)
Southern Tier Sports ReportAfter a dominant 50-0 home win over Oxford last week the Edison football team goes on the road this week against Unatego/Franklin.
“The team is excited,” Edison coach Kyle Erickson said. “We accomplished our goals for week one. Now we move on and look forward to Unatego on Friday night.”
The Spartans are excited to try and continue the success from week one.
“Our team has set goals for what we want to accomplish this season so they are excited to keep on taking steps in the right direction,” Erickson said.
The Spartans know they will be facing a fired up Unatego team that fell 36-20 to Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton a week ago.
“They are going off a loss last week, so they are going to be hungry for a win,” Erickson said. “We must maintain ball control and win the turnover battle, try to play mistake free football.”
Offensively the Spartans know line play will be a key.
“We need to control the line of scrimmage to get the run game started and then just build through the game and get us in positions to take advantage with our speed,” Erickson said.
On defense the Spartans know it’s about playing aggressively.
“Need to be aggressive and attack down hill,” Erickson said. “Need to have great defensive end play to keep Unatego’s QB in the back field.”
