SOARING CAPITAL 08 BOYS' SOCCER TEAM FINISHES SUCCESSFUL SEASON (2023-08-03)
Southern Tier Sports ReportIt was a big season for the Soaring Capital Venom 08 boys’ soccer team.
The group has a pool of 29 kids spread between teams Venom Red and Venom Blue and finished a very successful 25-3-5 on the spring season.
The boys earned champions conference champions, Broome County Soccer Association u16 champions and Hershey Memorial Day Challenge champions.
The team has players from Corning, Elmira, Horseheads, Bath, Wellsboro, Elmira Heights, Watkins Glen and Binghamton.
All the boys were born in 2008 (will be ninth or 10th graders this fall) and the team was coached by Elmira varsity coach Derek Hamilton.
The roster includes Brody Hamilton (Elmira); Taylor Freelove (Corning); Carter Aldrich (Bradford/Dundee); Ian Pavlina (Bradford/Dundee); Luca Capilli (Elmira); Dom Capilli (Elmira); Zach Sternfels (Elmira Heights); Sean Hanrahan (Elmira); Deakon Valentine (Liberty); Landyn Proudfoot (Corning); Riley O’Herron (Elmira); Karter Campbell; myles Caprelli (Elmira); Will Howles (Corning); Pranav Ganesh (Horseheads); Jude Cuneo (Wellsboro); Chris Somers (Binghamton); Bryce Kent (Mansfield); Chase Christian (Elmira); Nolan Kennedy (Elmira); Ben Mahon (Corning); Tommy Klee (Horseheads); Aiden Cranmer (Bath); Jansen Weber (Horseheads); Maize Miller (Elmira); Andrew Clark (Corning); Owen Bly (Horseheads) and Kaelan Brenen-Buseck (Elmira).
The team is coached by Elmira’s Derek Hamilton and Matt Ricci and Ian Pavlina of Bradford.
The team is comprised of 29 kids from 10 school districts. They were the champions of the New York State Champions Conference (u15). They scored 20 goals and allowed just three on the season. Their division was composed of nine teams from Rochester, Syracuse and Buffalo.
When they won the Broome County Soccer Association that was the 16u division and that was comprised of teams from Northern, Pa., Oneonta and Binghamton Area.
The Hershey Memorial Day Challenge they won had 600 teams from around the country and the Venom knocked off teams from Long Island, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania.
The team is ranked number nine in New York State West according to GotSoccer National Rankings.
